@connorism6 yes, was good I like Wawrinka but I was expecting a more feisty Nole but he put to himself lot of pressure that he was like restrained and nervous. I was expecting at least a good 5 set match and they used to do in the latest matches. Well, that can happen but was "strange" his performance that day.

Djokovic and Nadal may be better Tennis players than Federer in some ways. But no one can match Roger's charisma and class in Tennis court. Federer is the one whom would be known to some one who don't know much about Tennis 🎾 stats and surfaces bcoz of his Wimbledon trophies 8🏆( Wimbledon is the Greatest prize in Tennis History). For people like us He is and will be the GOAT 🐐.

GOAT status isn’t determined by “charisma” or “class” which are largely manufactured anyway. Both Nadal and Djokovic are much more raw and real than Federer anyway who is a walking PR machine. He will be eclipsed by both his rivals so he will never be the GOAT if he ends up being the third best player of his generation.

You know what's interesting? Had Murray actually beat Djokovic this match, neither of them would get the Career Slam (no surprise there), but they would have stopped each other from doing so. Murray would've stopped Djokovic in 2016 (had he beat him here), and Djokovic would have stopped Murray at the AO in 2011, 2012 (although in the semis), 2013, 2015, and 2016.

The long match goes, the more chances he could win. If he didn't have that slump from 2016 wimbledon to 2018 French Open, we all know who would leader of the GS and I masters 1000 titles.

The previous year Djokovic was defeated soundly by Stan Wavrinka (2015) and in defeat he was given a standing ovation during the trophy ceremony. As it was happening Djokovic broke down crying. I believe during this moment he connected with the French public and they supported him more afterwards. You also need to consider that Andy Murray isn't that popular in France as say Federer and Nadal so that went in Nole's favour as well.

@Aman 'Only 3 finals'. Are you dumb? How many fucking GRAND SLAM finals does a player have to be in before your dumb ass finds it note worthy? Do you have any idea the struggle it is to only get to ONE final? And btw, little bit of education for your dumb ass, in 2013 Djokovic lost a 5 setter against Nadal in which he was up a break in the 5th, but had a famous choke for an easy smash in which he touched the net and then got broken back. If he had won it, his chances of winning the slam were obviously extremely good.

This match was actually very one sided despite Murray won the first set, after that Djokovic put on a masterclass performance, he approached the net many times became more agressive and took time away from Murray, he was also flying all over the court. He got a bit nervous at the end, but he was able to finish it. Still one of his sweetest wins in career and one of my favourite matches I watched. I wish I was there at Chatrier, someday maybe I will get the opportunity to watch him at this stage before he retires. Until then I hope he can win at least one more Roland Garros and It would be nice if he wins it this year. Thank you and good night

@Biney Singh Rafa at RG > Novak on AO, Rafa on Hard> Novak on Clay. Grass Novak is better. Did you read my comment at all? Rafa has beat his biggest rivals on every Big Stage. Leads 10-6 in GS Matches and 10-4 vs Federer. He beat prime Federer, prime Novak, beat them at every Masters, WTF, Olympics and Davis Cup. Nadal vs Djokovic. GS 20-18, Masters 35-36, WTF 0-5, Olympics 2-0, Davis Cups 5-1, ATP 500 20-15. H2H: 27-29. They played 7 times when Nadal was injured and only once when Novak was injured. GS H2H 10-6 Nadal. You talk like Novak beat Nadal and Federer at every GS. Nadal 2005,06, 07,08,11,12,13,14,19,20 RG beat Novak and Roger, at least one of them and in 06,07,08 both. Wimbledon: 07 Novak lost to Roger, 08 beat Roger. AO: 09 beat Roger, 12, beat Roger lost to Novak in 6 hour match, 14 beat Roger and got injured in the Finals. 17 lost to Roger in an epic. USO: Never played Federer but it's Rafas best Slam after RG so he'd probably win if they met. He also beat Novak twice and lost once. All 3 times when Novak was at his best. I didn't even bring up Murray Thiem Stan and other greats he beat at Slams and RG at all. Rafa beat Novak and Roger 20 times at GS. He won 14 GS where he beat them to win it and he beat them 17 times in those 14 GS that he won when he beat them. GOAT

    2. Ismet Čehić
      Ismet Čehić

@Biney Singh AO: beat Federer 3x, Wimbledon: beat them both, beat Roger in his prime in 2003-2009 when he went 48-1 at Wimbledon, USO: beat Novak 2x in Finals and has more USOs then Novak. WTF: beat them both. Olympics: beat Novak. IW: beat Novak, MIA: beat Roger and got robbed in 2005 Final also. Canada: beat Novak, Cincinati: beat Federer, Paris and Shanghai never beat any of them but played them only 2 times there. I didn't even bring up Clay because it's ridiculous. Nadal beat Federer all the time im his prime, not like Novak when Roger fell off. Especially after 2012. Nadal beat prime Novak. If it weren't for Rafa Roger would have won everything and would've had 11 GS straight. Rafa is the GOAT my friend. And that is with all those "fake injuries" you keep bringing up. Now imagine if he was healthy all the time. There wouldn't be a discussion.

    3. Ismet Čehić

@Jacob Schmidt Rafa would've beat Novak then at AO if not for a stupid miss too? It was 4-3 40-40 the match wasn't done, just like AO. Didn't Federer from 2004-2009 play only in GS SF or better? 2011 he got beat by Roger who isn't near as good as Nadal on Clay, and Roger played the same way it's just Rafa at the French is a different beast. 2012 Rafa should've won in 3. If it didn't rain at all Novak wouldn't win a set, but you complain when the game was postponed for the very reason Novak got back into the match? 2014 Rafa beat him with a back injury. Case Closed. 2020 Novak was undefeated until facing Rafa and he got destroyed in the conditions tht suit him. He beat Nadal at conditions at AO 19 that SUIT him, that's why Rafas win is a bit more impressive. You know as well as I do that that win in 2015 really doesn't mean anything. Rafa's 2015-16 and Novak's 2017 shouldn't count since they had injury issues. Same with Roger in 2013 and late 2015 and a bit in 2016. Novak only got beat by Nadal at the French? What about Kohlschreiber, Melzer, Thiem x2, Cechinatto? Don't act like he hasn't had failures at the French. The difference is, Rafa came closest to beating Novak in the Final for a tittle at the AO, and Rafa when he won the AO beat the Best Player at that surface and at that tournament at that moment in time (Federer in 2009). Rafa also stopped Federer in Wimbledon when no one else could,Roger went from 2003-2010 was 48-1 at Wimbledon. Unlike Djokovic when he started beating him in his mid 30s and late 30s, yes Rafa lost to him but played like shit and Novak should've lost but Roger has a mental block agaunst him now in his late days just like with Rafa in his prime. Nadal beat prime Federer in AO and WIM, beat Novak at WIM as well and was robbed once and also smashed Novak at the USO after Nole dethroned Federer and also once in mid of Novak's prime. And I don't even talk the French Open anymore, it's just getting silly. Since the other guys only win when Rafa isn't there or is injured... That's all

    4. Jacob Schmidt
      Jacob Schmidt
      Ай бұрын

@Ismet Čehić To be fair, 2011 Djokovic would have beat Nadal in 4 sets at the French Open if he would not have been knocked out by an inspired Federer. In 2013 FO, Djokovic would have won if not for that unlucky net touch. In 2012, Djokovic won 6 consecutive games and was up a break in the 4th set against Nadal before play was suspended. Uncle Toni admitted that Nadal probably would have lost if Nadal had not been able to regroup for a night. Nadal obviously would beat Djokovic most of the time at the French Open, but don't pretend like Djokovic could not have won as well. In 2017, Nadal was lucky to beat Zverev and Dimitrov. Djokovic is much more consistent on his worst surface(clay) than Nadal is on his worst(grass and indoor). Look at the results Nadal had at Wimbledon 2012 through 2017. They were very subpar and much worse than Nole's Roland Garros results. Djokovic was only losing to the greatest Clay player of all-time. These are facts. Furthermore, Nadal never beat Djokovic in his house(Australia) and beat a Federer at Wimbledon during a year in which he was suffering from mononucleosis. Grandpa Federer kicked the Spaniards butt in 4 in 2019. That's likely how it goes in 2008 if Federer was his normal self.

    5. Ismet Čehić
      Ismet Čehić
      Ай бұрын

@Jean Marcos Lopez Novak never beat him in a best of 5 on clay. He beat him in Rome, yes, but Rafa had back issues ever since AO 14, that's why he skipped the year after Wimbledon. They only played twice there and it took Novak at his best to beat Nadal then. It was a 6 hour match. And Rafa won the AO by beating the top dog who was Roger at the time. Same at Wimbledon. And at the USO he beat Novak after he dethroned Federer and also in his prime at 2013. If Novak beat Rafa at 2012,13,14 or even last year I would give it to him, but he hadn't and that's just how it is. The difference is Rafa lost to Novak in his prime after already winning in his Slam by beating the 2nd Greatest there and lost in a 6 hour Final, another 5 setter and in 2014 he was by far the best and only lost to Stan because of injury. So I can even make a case that Rafa is better at the AO then Novak at the French.

@Ertugrul Körpinar Debatable. 2011 Djokovic is capable of beating any player. The question is which Nadal on clay are we talking about? I would bet my money on 2011 Djokovic at least over 2005, 2006, 2011, 2015(for obvious reasons) and 2016 clay Nadal. Certainly not over the 08, 10, 12 and 13 version. Nadal 17, 18, 19, 20 and 21 is debatable for the following reasons: - Nadal post 2014 is not the same player in regards to his movement, athleticism, forehand power and stamina. - Djokovic is not the clay player he was during 2011 to mid 2016; he no longer has the power or stamina to grind long and punishing clay matches. 2020 made this very apparent - While not beating Nadal during 2012 to 2014, Djokovic proved that he could at least make the matches competitive and tight Now Nadal has compensated to some degree by improving his backhand and aggressiveness, but I don't know if this would be enough for peak clay Djokovic. 2011 Djokovic might exploit the decline of his movement, stamina and forehand power.

I mean, if this was 2011 Djokovic, I might agree. However, 2021 Djokovic is nowhere near the same player on clay that he used to be and unfortunately cannot beat Thiem or Nadal on clay at this point.

I'm a Djoko fan but that's pushing it a bit...but if Djoko is on his game and Rafa a bit off, he can certainly beat him again at RG for a second time. That would be something phenomenal.

@Jacob Schmidt Wawrinka: the guy who stopped Djokovic in FO 2015, USO 2016, AO 2014, Nadal in AO 2014. Schwartzman: The player who led Nadal by a set and a break up in Set 2 in the FO 2018 QF, Thiem: the player who took Nadal to five sets in USO 2018 QF, beat him in 4 tight sets AO 2020 QF, beaten him on clay every year from 2017 to 2019. Sinner: serving for set 1, led by a break in set 2 in cold windy conditions. Do you get the picture now?? LOL yourself.

@z1az Wawrinka? The guy Nadal owns and blitzed in 2017 FO? Lol. Schwartzman, the modern David Ferrer and gatekeeper that had no chance against Nadal? Lol. Sinner will be a great player, but let's be honest. He was too young and inexperienced to truly threaten Rafa. Nadal did not even have to play Zverev. Nadal has been the weak slam draw king for sometime now. USO 2017(Kevin Anderson in the finals, No Federer and Djokovic) and 2019(inexperienced Medvedev and again no Federer and Djokovic).

@Jacob Schmidt Luck? A draw that had Wawrinka, Thiem, Schwartzman, Zverev and as we saw Sinner is not "luck". No one asked Thiem to play 10 feet behind the baseline and get subjected to dropshots from hugo who by the way played brilliantly as well. His draw was a minefield. I'm happy the dominos fell into place for him.

@z1az It's a pity we were not able to see 2020 Thiem against Nadal at Roland Garros. That Thiem may have been able to do it. Now we will never know if Nadal would have been able to beat Thiem and Djokovic back to back to win it. Certainly lucky on the Spaniards part.

@Travis Bickle Basketball is quite different from tennis. There are great basketball players like Charles Barkley or Allen Iverson who have never won an NBA championship, but they are hall of famers because of their single stats. Basketball is a team sport. You compete as a team. The Bulls didn't win championships until 1991. The reason is because they didn't have players like Scotty Pippen. You need a team of good players. Not just one.

@Samuel A 'wtf bro what are you talking about with your ifs.' Says the guy who started the whole argument himself by a 'if it was Nadal, things would have been different', and then later 'if Nadal was a normal year Nadal, he would have won'. So you can use 'ifs' to illustrate points but others can't, real fucking logic, you dumb fuck. If you can use the argument of if Nadal was in a normal year performance, then people sure can respond with if Djokovic was in his 2011 performance. Stop being a hypocrite, shit head.
